South Korean company LG, have begun Australian delivery of their new 6.4 kWh Lithium-ion battery storage units. The battery has a 10 year warranty and is expected to have a lifespan of 6000 cycles at 90% depth of discharge. The ability to draw the battery charge right down means that a much smaller capacity is needed compared to existing lead-acid batteries. It has a similar physical size, price and capacity to the much-publicised Tesla PowerWall. However the LG battery unit is available, and already compatible with a range of commonly used inverters. We are currently putting together an AC-coupled, urban stand-alone demonstration system using the new battery. Exciting times!
